Resource Management Field Summary for July 28 – August 03, 2011

(Bodie, Hatteras and Ocracoke Districts)

 

Piping Plover (PIPL) Observations:  Monitoring for migratory PIPL and other migrant avian species is being conducted on a weekly basis.

 

PIPL Summary:   The two older chicks from the first brood on Bodie Island Spit fledged on 8/3 and the younger brood still has one unfledged chick.

American Oystercatcher (AMOY) Summary:  Two single chick AMOY broods remain in the  Bodie-Hatteras District.   Bodie-Hatteras District fledged ten chicks, Hatteras District fledged nine chicks, and Ocracoke fledged seven AMOY chicks.

A man was observed inside in the filter fencing of the turtle nest expansion 1.3 mi N of R23 standing over the nest location. He was yelling obscenities as he left the area.  There was no damage to the closure or filter fencing but it appeared that the man had urinated on the nest.  Law Enforcement searched the area but could not locate him.
